1. How long have you played the piano?

8 Years

2. What are the greatest challenges in your piano study?

Working through challenging sections of music and persevering.

 3. What is your favorite part of your piano study?

Being more knowledgeable about music. Using theory for creative purposes such as composing playing improvisations, learning songs on my own and just having a general idea about how music works.

 4. Do you enjoy performing?  /What do you get out of performing?

Performing is a lot of pressure for me so I don’t exactly enjoy it but it is fulfilling after the performance is over and done with. I’m less nervous when I’m collaborating with others.

5. How often do you practice?  What is your practice routine?

On a good week I practice 30 minutes every day.

6. What kind of music do you listen to?  Who are your favorite artists/composers?

I listen to all different types of music. Currently I think my favorite artist is Stevie Wonder.

 7. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting to study the piano?

If Practicing ever feels like a chore, think about the fun elements. Try learning some of your favorite songs. Use it as an outlet!

8. What obstacles have you had to overcome to get to play the way you are playing now?

Practicing consistently is tough but it’s worth it!

9. What are some other likes and dislikes you have.  Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I’m in my school orchestra. I’ve been playing cello for 5 years. I also dance and sing. My dad taught music at King Middle School in Portland for a long time and also plays in Percy Hill. My mom is a pianist, dancer and singer and my step dad is a dancer, DJ, and singer. I like performing in musicals as well!
